Steph Curry Dismisses Katt Williams’ Claim About Influencing His Game
Golden State Warriors superstar Steph Curry recently addressed a viral claim suggesting comedian Katt Williams played a role in shaping his legendary shooting style.
During a new episode of 360 With Speedy, Curry laughed off the story, which has been circulating online and recently resurfaced after Williams brought it up again during a podcast appearance.
Host Speedy Morman playfully asked Curry if the rumors were true. “So we have Katt Williams to thank for your jumper?” he joked. Curry chuckled before replying, “Big fan of Katt, but I’ve never actually met him.”
Morman continued with the bit, saying it was interesting Curry never met the man who allegedly taught him everything about shooting. Curry then got serious and clarified, “That story? 100% false. It never happened. But it just shows the power of storytelling. He had my own family calling me, thinking it was true.”
Curry added context to debunk the tale, explaining he was a relatively unknown high school recruit at the time the meeting supposedly occurred. “I wasn’t getting invited or paid to be at All-Star games like that,” he said.
The NBA champion also noted that while he hasn’t seen Williams shoot a basketball, he knows the comedian plays golf. “Maybe one day we’ll get a round in. But no, I won’t be giving Katt a shout-out in my retirement speech.”
The story Williams refers to stems from interviews he gave in 2024 and 2025, where he claimed to have met a young Curry at a charity event before his NBA days. Williams said he gave Curry a simple philosophy: “I’m always open,” suggesting this mindset sparked Curry’s fearless long-range shooting.
“I’m not the kind of guy to take credit for stuff,” Williams said in a previous podcast. “But I am responsible for the greatest shooter the NBA has ever seen.”
Despite the comedian’s colorful claims, Curry has made it clear that his success is the result of years of training—not tips from a surprise mentor.
